Art Scholars’ Exhibition

Wednesday 3rd June 2026

The transient nature of exhibitions can, in part, add to their appeal. Occasionally, their memories can linger, as in the case of this year’s Art Scholars’ collective exhibition entitled Inside Outside, Homage to Artist, Stanley Jones, held in the Mount House Gallery from the 1st to the 23rd May. Earlier in the year we hosted an exhibition of Stanley Jones’ works created in his teens and twenties. This formed the backbone of this exhibition, with 41 pupils, from Shell to Upper Sixth, responding to this artist’s thinking, style and approaches.

The range, dexterity and force of our Art Scholars’ work on display during Prize Day was a delight to the mind and eyes. There were no pastiches. Across this palpable, eloquent work was an energy, synergy and a sophisticated rigour. This body of work was created outside, away from and independent of the Examination Board’s criteria, allowing each Art Scholar’s visual thinking to stand out and bear visual fruit. In fact, each Scholar responded cogently and fluently. Ceramics, painting, copious quality sketches, mono-prints, etchings, drawings and original installations adorned the Mount House Gallery. The spirit of Stanley Jones’ creativity was embraced and sought new life. Our Scholars work speaks for themselves. Stanley Jones would be nodding in agreement.
