We were delighted to welcome Rev. Dr Ellen Clark-King to Marlborough for a thought-provoking Q&A with our Lower Sixth Theology, Philosophy and Ethics pupils. Drawing on a distinguished ministry that has spanned the UK, Canada and the United States, Ellen reflected on some of the most significant debates and developments within contemporary Christianity, including the ordination of women, the inclusion of LGBTQ people in the Church, social justice and the challenges of balancing personal faith with responsibilities to an increasingly diverse society.
As ever, our Lower Sixth TPE pupils impressed with their astute questions. Ellen responded thoughtfully and generously throughout, offering valuable insight into the lived experience of faith.

“Rev. Dr Clark-King reminded us that it is easy to lose sight of the wider context of the Bible when arguing for its scriptural authority on smaller matters. She ultimately made me realise how ‘arbitrary’ these contentions are (in the sense that they shouldn’t even be a topic of conflict) as the Church ought to be motivated by the ultimate understanding of God’s omnibenevolent and just nature. It was particularly hopeful to hear her experiences of how Christianity can evolve. It seems more important than ever that the Church reconnects with the roots and purpose of the religion: to serve the community, be loving and inclusive.”
