These are inevitably only a snap-shot of the term and we know that many more pupils have made noteworthy contributions which we also warmly applaud. Academic
Congratulations to our pupils who took part in national competitions.
In the follow-up rounds of the UKMT Intermediate Mathematics challenge, Iris T received a silver medal in the Cayley Olympiad and Chen X gained a merit in the Hamilton Olympiad. In the Grey Kangaroo (for Year 9), Louisa L received a bronze medal; and in the Pink Kangaroo (Years 10 & 11) three pupils gained a silver medal, and four a bronze medal, with Freddie T-S gaining the highest score.
Congratulations to the 31 Lower Sixth pupils who took part in this year’s TED talks competition. Particular congratulations go to the finalists: Henry H, Zara S-J, Oliver F, Felix S and to Elizabeth D and Arthur D B who were joint winners.
Congratulations to the following pupils who were recognised in the Anthea Bell translation prize run by Queen’s College, Oxford: Felix M B was highly commended in Russian; Elodie B and Tati M were awarded a commendation for their joint Italian entry; Lewis M was commended for his Mandarin translation at Level 4; and Ava H received a highly commended distinction in Mandarin.
The Lancelot Glasson Prize in Art History for the Lower Sixth was won by Daisy G, with Dash R in 2nd place and Serena B in 3rd.
This year’s Welchman Prize was awarded to Belinay E for her article and presentation on “Changing modelling assumptions: Simple Model Rocket Re-Entry Trajectory”. The other finalists were Oliver F, Tom L F and Ethan S.
Gold winners of the Remove Biology challenge were George V, Camilla P, Esme L and Bertie F.
In History, the Young Pioneers Challenge is a wide-ranging knowledge-based challenge, covering 1000 years of history across Europe and America. Congratulations to those pupils who have reached ‘Silver’ level this year: Emilia B (scoring 60/60), Summer W, Camilla G, Woody W, Seb G, Rafe H and Henry J.
On Prize Day, Turner won the House Challenge, beating C2 in the final round. C2 won the first House Maths Challenge since COVID, beating B1 in a sudden death tie-breaker.

Cricket
The Boys’ XI won the John Harvey Cup for the third time in four consecutive seasons.
Congratulations to Hugo H who became only the fourth Marlburian to take four five-wicket hauls for the Boys XI since the turn of the century.
The 1st Junior Colts reached the semi-finals of the ESCA Cup (reaching the last 4 of 1,300 schools nationally) and they were crowned South West champions. The Yearlings 1s were crowned Wiltshire Champions for the 17th successive year.
The Girls’ XI reached the national quarter-finals of the U17 T20 Cup and the U15As reached the quarter-final of the national 100 Ball competition.

The inaugural Shell House competition was won by Turner (George L and George C) and the ‘Pick Putter’, our annual summer term competition for pupil and beak pairs, was won by George Lane and Will L.
Tennis
At the ISTGL, our combined aged Girls’ team narrowly lost to Wellington in the final.
In the LTA league, the U15A Girls’ remained undefeated and will advance to the South West regional final early next term. The U15B Girls’ are also unbeaten this term.
In the Aberdare Cup, both our 1st and 2nd teams reached the regional semi-finals
In Boys’ Tennis, the U18 team reached the South West area final of the LTA Glanville Cup.
