Photographer-in-Residence

A warm welcome to Scout Johnstone, Marlborough College’s first Photographer-in-Residence.

Scout joins us from Falmouth University where she completed her BA degree in Photography before the summer. Her studio base is in the Mount House Gallery. Scout will also be helping and supporting A level Photography. What singles Scout out within her work is her astuteness and compositional intent and her use of light, together with her subject matter which celebrates the seemingly ordinary, low-key and every day as she poetically chronicles and captures time passing. Each combined create powerful hallmarks in her practice.

What is expressed in Scout’s website perfectly encapsulates her creative practice:

‘Her work explores the relationship between humans and the natural world. Focusing on narratives that highlight the positive impact people can have on the Earth; her images look at how photography can shift perspectives on our role in caring for the natural environment. Her practise considers the land as a palimpsest – a living archive layered with traces and histories of those who came before.’
