A Midsummer Night’s Dream

David Kenworthy and Michael Butterfield’s vibrant production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream reimagined Shakespeare’s festive tale with energy and flair at the Ellis Theatre. Paul Cox’s naturalistic set, enhanced by atmospheric lighting and an eclectic mix of costumes and masks, created a richly immersive world. Outstanding performances ranged from the agile, impassioned lovers to the comic brilliance of the Mechanicals and the playful mischief of the fairies, with actor-musicians adding further dynamism. This colourful, effervescent production captured the spirit of celebration with charm and theatrical invention.
