Music Scholars
At the heart of the department are up to 50 highly talented Music Scholars.
They are selected through a rigourous process of pre-audition and main auditions, and scholarships are awarded at both Shell and Lower Sixth entry points.
Occasionally, internal awards are made at other points.
Music Scholars benefit from three free instrumental or vocal lessons per week, and are mentored and monitored by the Artistic Director and other Music Department staff. They are also offered subsidised tickets to attend the professional Marlborough College Concerts Series events.
Music Scholars are integral members of all the major choirs, orchestras and ensembles, and regularly participate in solo recitals and high-profile events, such as the annual Music Scholars’ Gala Concert at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
They have an extensive list of expectations, roles and responsibilities, the most important of which is perhaps to inspire those around them through their passion and love of music.
Upon leaving the College, a significant number of our Music Scholars take up places at Oxbridge, Music College or University and many are well established in the music industry.
