Flight School

Flight School is one of the most distinctive additions to Marlborough’s outdoor offering, giving pupils the opportunity to experience the challenge and exhilaration of learning to fly.

Based at a local airfield and operating throughout the academic year, the programme offers both introductory flying experiences and a structured pathway towards a recognised pilot’s licence. Pupils receive one-to-one instruction from qualified flight instructors, combining practical flying lessons with an understanding of the principles of aviation, navigation and meteorology.

The emphasis is on developing confidence, precision and sound decision-making. Flying demands focus and discipline, but also rewards curiosity and a willingness to take on new challenges. Pupils quickly discover that every flight is different, shaped by weather conditions, airspace considerations and the subtle complexities of controlling an aircraft.

For those who wish to pursue it further, Flight School provides a clear progression route, with several pupils already working towards solo flight and beyond. Others choose to take part in occasional flights, gaining a unique perspective on the surrounding countryside and a memorable introduction to aviation.

As with all Outdoor Activities at Marlborough, safety and professionalism are central. Training is delivered in accordance with UK aviation standards, ensuring that pupils benefit from high-quality instruction in a supportive environment.

Flight School complements the College’s long-standing tradition of adventure and exploration, offering a modern extension of that ethos: not just travelling across landscapes, but learning to navigate the skies above them.
