Marlborough College boasts a host of outstanding indoor and outdoor sporting facilities. These have been subject to a programme of enhancement and modernisation over the years.

Within the beautiful College grounds, there are extensive playing fields. These include eleven rugby pitches, six grass hockey pitches, eight cricket squares, fourteen artificial cricket nets, four to seven lacrosse and football pitches and two volleyball courts.

There are two all-weather Astroturf pitches (both floodlit) for hockey and tennis (12 courts) and further hard court areas for netball (eight courts) and tennis (13 courts). The golfers play on the nearby beautiful Marlborough and Ogbourne Downs golf courses.

There are also local facilities for canoeing and polo. Fishermen can try their luck in the River Kennet or in the College’s own trout ponds. Under the lee of Granham Hill stands an all-weather, porous rubber athletics track, re-laid in 2001 and fully equipped to international standards.

Indoor Facilities

The College has an excellent sports hall complex and a recently refurbished, award-winning gymnasium. These facilities house a fully-equipped fitness room, two studios, a classroom, and a Fencing salle. There are indoor cricket nets and facilities for a range of sports including indoor tennis, netball, basketball, volleyball and badminton.

A state of the art, 25 metre indoor swimming pool was opened in 2003. This has eight lanes and a hydraulic bottom which alters the depth from 0.8 to three metres making it equally ideal for squad training, water-polo, sub-aqua, canoeing, and competitive or recreational swimming.

Indoor facilities also include two Rackets courts, four Squash courts and six Fives courts. The campus has its own outdoor activities centre, the Kempson Centre, with dedicated storage, teaching space and an indoor climbing wall. There is also a newly built .22 rifle range located in close proximity to the Parade Ground.
