Our Vision
Marlburians are well-rounded individuals: academically ambitious, open-minded, adaptable and socially minded with a strong sense of perspective for their community and the wider world.
Our mission is to deliver the best independent, co-educational, full boarding education in the United Kingdom and to be recognised for this globally.
A Marlborough College education will equip young people to meet the challenges of a complex and evolving modern world. They will be intellectually agile innovators, harnessing the creative energy of diverse opinions and striving to make a real difference in society.
An Accessible and Inclusive Education
The external expectation of public schools has rightly increased. We embrace the necessity to make a Marlborough College education accessible to any talented child (whatever their background or financial circumstances), to engage more openly with our local communities and to be more conscious of our social, cultural and environmental impact.
The Marlborough we envisage will be a leading, outward-looking, diverse and inclusive school where children with potential are given the opportunity to make a difference.
The diversity of a school community has a powerful impact on the values and attitudes of every member, not only by facilitating a greater awareness and acceptance of difference, but also by tackling the social issues surrounding inequality and by identifying ways to dismantle the barriers. It is important to us that our pupils and staff reflect the society of which we are part.
In 2023, we launched one of the biggest bursary fundraising campaigns ever run in this country. The campaign is called The Marlborough Difference and its goal is to fund 100 free places at Marlborough College, which is equivalent to 10 per cent of our pupil body. We know from previous recipients that such bursaries can be life-changing and we are committed to providing more opportunities for motivated and talented young people who would otherwise be unable to study at Marlborough.
The College firmly believes that the campaign will not only make a difference to the bursary recipients but also to the school and wider society. Increasing the number of pupils on free places is expected to have a transformative impact on the College by creating a more diverse pupil community. It is also anticipated that a number of the bursary recipients will go on to make a difference to others through their lives and careers.
It is my privilege to lead Marlborough College, a school community with such opportunity to make a difference. As a full boarding school with exceptional people and facilities, we are uniquely well placed to create the right environment for young people to meet their potential, empowered and supported in their ambitions for their future and for that of the world around them. For me, increasing diversity at the College will be the catalyst to take us forward: not just greater diversity in the people who join our school community, but greater diversity in our partnerships, our curriculum and co-curriculum, our collaborations and outreach, and in the ways we teach, learn and engage.
