Ed is Head of the Perse School in Cambridge. The Perse is an academically selective day school with over 1,650 pupils on four sites in and around Cambridge. It has two international franchise schools, one in Suzhou, China, and the other in Singapore.
He was educated at RGS Worcester and St Anne’s College, Oxford, where he obtained a First class degree in Geography. After working for security printers De La Rue plc, he began his teaching career at Whitgift School in Croydon.
Ed has a keen interest in curriculum and assessment issues. He is Vice Chair of the HMC Academic Policy Committee and a Cambridge University syndic overseeing the work of Cambridge Assessment and its constituent exam boards.
Ed is a founding member of the SAGE group of leading world schools.
He joined the Council in March 2019.
