Head of French

Ellen Hayes

Ellen studied languages at Edinburgh University and graduated with an MA in French, having also studied modules in Spanish, European Cinema, Linguistics and Arabic. She completed her PGCE (French and Spanish) at Exeter University.

She taught French and German at Oakham School, where she was also a Resident House Tutor and Head of All-Rounder Scholars. Her next teaching post was at Bradfield College where she became Head of French and taught Spanish.

Ellen joined Marlborough College in 2020 as Head of French. She has also taught Spanish at the College and looks forward to developing her other languages, particularly Arabic as she has fond memories of childhood years living in Oman.

She has helped run Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold expeditions, CCF and various overseas trips and she currently coaches netball and tennis. Ellen enjoys skiing, diving and baking, and hopes to travel extensively in future years.
