Raquel Carceles-Sanchez

Raquel grew up and was educated in Spain, where she earned a degree in Philology from the Universidad de Murcia, a Master’s Degree on Literature and Linguistics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and a Master’s Degree of ELE (Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language) from the Instituto Cervantes.

During her third year at university, she lived in the UK whilst studying at the University of Birmingham through an Erasmus Grant. After completing her Master’s Degree in Spain, she was offered another grant to work as a Spanish Assistant in the UK for a further two years. With a deep love for travel and an appreciation for diverse cultures, Raquel has also lived in multiple countries, where she had the opportunity to learn German, Italian and Japanese.

Throughout her career, Raquel worked as a translator and interpreter and has mainly been committed to education, working as a Spanish teacher, Head of Department and Curriculum Director at Spanish, International and British schools.

For the past eight years, she has lived in the UK, where, alongside her role as Head of Department and Spanish teacher, she has also worked as a Housemistress. Having joined Marlborough College in 2024 as Head of Spanish, she is also a tutor in Cotton House, and leads the Spanish Outreach programme.
