Chemistry - Cathy Walsh

Head of Department

Cathy Walsh graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc in Chemistry, before completing a PGCE at the University of York. Commencing her teaching career, Cathy taught Chemistry and Biology at Warminster school, where she was also a Resident House Tutor and member of the CCF.

A keen mountaineer, Cathy then moved to The Alps, to join Aiglon College in Switzerland. Here, she was both Head of Junior Science and Head of Junior Boys’ expeditions, dividing her time between teaching Chemistry and Biology to A level and developing the Junior Expedition ski and camping programme. Committed to co-ed boarding education, she was – again – a Resident House Tutor.

Cathy returned to the UK – and Marlborough College – in 1996 and was appointed Head of Chemistry a year later. Having run the department for six years, she became Housemistress of New Court, a position she held for ten years, before returning to the role of Head of Chemistry in 2014.

Cathy is also a qualified yoga teacher and Mountain leader and has a young son, who is at a local prep school.
