Deputy Head (Academic): E J TolputtSenior Management Team
Ed joined Marlborough College in September 2018, having spent the previous nine years at Radley College, Oxfordshire, where he was Head of Physics.
Ed’s route into teaching was more mountain pass than motorway. After school, he spent a year singing at Wells Cathedral before going up to St John’s College, Cambridge; here he studied General Engineering (producing a Masters dissertation on the vibration of turbocharger blades) and was an Alto Choral Scholar.
Upon graduation, Ed spent two years working as a structural engineer for the London-based Price and Myers before returning to education – this time, the one-year postgraduate music theatre course at the Royal Academy of Music. Ed spent the next few years combining performance with freelance structural engineering, until, in 2008, enrolling on the PGCE course at Oxford University.
Ed is husband to Sophie and father to Jim.
