Mr S R Hawthorn | Housemaster Preshute

Housemasters and Housemistresses

Scott Hawthorn is the Housemaster of Preshute, having taken over as Housemaster of Preshute in the summer of 2019.

Scott completed a Chemistry Honours degree at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. After a brief stint in the pharmaceutical industry he obtained QTS through a graduate training programme at John O’Gaunt Community Technology College in Hungerford, where he taught Chemistry, Biology and Physics and was also Head of Year 7.

He joined Marlborough College in September, 2005. He teaches in the Chemistry Department and was Resident House Tutor in C3. In 2012, he and his family relocated to Malaysia to become founding members of Marlborough College Malaysia. During his five years at MCM he started and was Housemaster of Taylor, the junior boys’ house and Wills, one of the senior boys’ houses.

On the co-curricular front Scott coaches hockey and swimming. He has also previously been involved in the school’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and was head of Outreach.

Scott enjoys squash, mountain walking, running, playing golf (badly!) and spending time with family and friends. He and his family are particularly keen travellers.

Scott is married to Vivien, who is a Learning Support teacher at Downe House. As a previous member of the Marlborough College and MCM Common Rooms and RHT in Morris House, Vivien has vast experience of life at the College and will be actively involved in Preshute. They have three children, Kate, Olivia and Edward.
