2004 HRH Prince Charles

HRH Prince Charles visited Marlborough – town and College – on 18th June 2004 to celebrate the 800th anniversary of King John granting the town its Royal Charter. The visit was part of a week of local events commemorating the important historic moment. You can read a little bit about the event in the review that was published in The Marlburian Magazine.

During his visit to the College, Charles unveiled the large sarsen stone in the Wilderness – adjacent to C3 and the Music Department – a spot that was once part of the bailey of Marlborough Castle, within which the then Prince John was married to Isabella of Gloucester at the Great Chapel of St Nicholas.
